Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Green

The 'Pineapple Helmet' GI soldiers were first issued by Lido Toys back in the 1950's.  When Lido went out of business most of their molds were scrapped, but what survived was acquired by Joy Toy, then TootsieToy. Some of the figures were nearly identical to Marx Toys soldiers, with the exception of the helmets which featured a criss-cross pattern meant to emulate camouflage netting. While it's always been common for toy makers to copy each other, in this case it seems it was the mold maker that cut corners and used the same master sculpts for both products as Marx...

BMC Toys Production Update and New Package Art

The big delay for new BMC Toys production due to package art is finally over. The latest estimate for arrival is late July/Early August. A new set has been added, 'Atlantic Wall Fortifications' that includes 21 pieces of barbed wire ,dragons teeth, sandbags,  and czech hedgehogs. Here's a preview of the new header cards and boxes:

New Boxes and New Production

New BMC Toys production has been booked, but unfortunately won't be available until early 2017. It was planned for the new production to arrive by late November, but it's taken much longer than anticipated to complete all the new package art. Hopefully the improvements we've made will be worth the wait. Speaking of improvements, here's a prototype of the upgraded Iwo Jima Playset Box style. Iwo Jima Sticker Tests

Here's prototype stickers applied to the massive Mount Suribachi Bunker from the BMC Toys Iwo Jima Playset: The graphics were created with great care to be as historically accurate and detailed as possible. There were some limitations due to the small size and required margins for sticker cutouts, but there are still a lot of fine details to discover in these.

Some BMC Boxed Set Improvements

A couple of improvements have been made for the upcoming BMC Toys production of the D-Day Invasion Normandy and Iwo Jima Boxed sets. The Bombed Farm House tool has been revised with reinforcements on the inside of the walls, and will be molded in ABS plastic instead of Polypropylene to keep walls straight and improve assembly. We're also changing the color of the walls from reddish brown to tan. We took some inspiration from the original 1990's BMC Toys Alamo set and made a brand new mold of the flag with base and rock formation. The flags are over 7...
