BMC Toys: Plastic Army Women Project: Update #5

The BMC Toys Plastic Army Women Project is rolling along at brisk pace... You can get an early sneak peak of the Plastic Army Women Kickstarter and check out the video we made, and even more pictures of the figures. I'm especially interested in getting feedback on the rewards before the campaign launches on November 14th. I tried to keep it simple offer some great values, but if there's anything you think is missing or confusing please let me know.  There's been a lot of progress on the original sculpts, and I've added a 6th figure (Grenadier) to the basic...

BMC Toys: Plastic Army Women Project: Update #4

First up, I want to give a quick thank you for all the messages and feedback I've received. The stories and reference photos from Military Women and their families has been especially helpful and inspiring. I was really surprised when post cards and letters started arriving in my mailbox, and these are real live actual postcards with handwritten notes and postmarked stamps and everything : The past few weeks have continued to be bonkers around here, but the BMC Toys Plastic Army Women (and several other projects) have been progressing pretty much on schedule. These stories also aired on news broadcasts around the country. It's been an amazing, and somewhat...

It's happening! BMC Toys is going to produce a set of Plastic Army Women figures within the next year. Before we get into the details, I should recap for folks who just learned about the project from the 'On the Road With Steve Hartman' story from tonight's CBS Evening News. Here's the story so far: I've been kicking around the idea for a set of female toy soldiers with friends and family for at least 3 years. Everyone liked the idea, but a new set of original figures is a big project, so I put the idea on the back...

BMC Toys: Plastic Army Women Project: Update #1

Here's a long overdue update on the BMC Toys Plastic Army Women Project idea I posted last year. The general concept is a set of female combat toy soldier figures in the style of the plastic army men from WW2-Cold War era that would blend in with existing figures from a variety of manufacturers and look like what the average person thinks of as 'little green army men' that just happen to be women. The initial response to the idea was very positive and indicated this concept is generally on the right track. The main feedback received has been the...
