BMC Toys: The Russians are Coming, better Deploy those AA Tanks.
Posted by Jeff Imel on
There's a lot of news, but I have to keep this post short and to the point. The latest BMC production order has shipped and is scheduled to arrive early November. It includes restocks of many popular items, the new upgraded Iwo Jima boxed set, and the Rough Riders vs. Spain bagged set. The production samples look great, and I'll be posting more about those soon. This post is about some upcoming additions to the BMC Toys 'Classic Army Men Collection'. Production is scheduled to start very soon for new USA Made recasts of the Marx WW2 Russian Soldiers and...
BMC Toys: WW2 Bunker Building Project Update

We've made some good progress on the BMC Toys 1:32 scale WW2 German Bunker Building. The digital model is almost complete and should be ready for 3D printing a prototype soon. Here's the latest digital mockup of the project:I've made some changes and additions based upon customer feedback of the original concept art. The center of each roof half now has a removable insert. These will be a light friction fit and can be removed so troops have access to the roof with ladders. There will be 2 ladders that can be used from inside the building through the center...
BMC Toys: Plastic Army Women Project
Posted by Jeff Imel on
I was recently asked a question that comes up every so often, "Do you stock any female toy soldiers?" Marx and Tim Mee offered Army Nurse figures decades ago, but I'm not aware of anything currently available, so I let the customer know we don't have anything like that in stock. Usually, that's the end of it, but this time the customer (a retired Navy Sailor) made a compelling case for why Plastic Army Women might be popular. I promised to conduct some research, and discovered there might be enough folks looking for Little Green Army Women to consider producing...
BMC Toys: Rough Riders Reissue Confounding Color Conundrum
Posted by Jeff Imel on
A few months ago we staged a search and rescue mission for the BMC Toys San Juan Hill Playset molds. The search was a success, but the molds need a lot of repair and maintenance, so for the rescue part I decided we'd start with the Rough Riders figure mold, and get a bagged set of Rough Riders and Spanish soldiers produced for the Fall. The mold is still in the shop, but the details need to be finalized soon so everything is ready to move into production in time. One of the first things to figure out is what...
BMC Toys: The German Bunker of San Juan Hill
Posted by Jeff Imel on
Work continues on restoring the recently located BMC San Juan Hill molds, but in the meantime, I'm considering offering the Inner Hacienda walls as a separate accessory this fall. The walls have been used by custom playset builders for a wide range of places and eras: This got me thinking about how the walls might look with different roofs, and if a new roof mold might be feasible. The simplest design is a flat roof that transforms the hacienda to a bunker or commercial building. This flat roof is made of 2 identical pieces: Each half could be removed independently...
